In
addition to commissioned pieces, Deborah also paints and creates
collage works inspired by her own personal ideas and insights.
If her subjects are not metaphorical in the form of houses, they
are generally images of women exploring various psychological
issues of life. One painting entitled “Size Matters”
depicts a shapely woman wearing a corset of words spelling out
the tyranny of size, weight and body image in our everyday culture.
In another work, a woman represents an everyday goddess who holds
trees in her hands as an offering against the present-day destruction
of the earth’s environment. This painting, “God in
Her Heaven,” bears the words from the Bible reminding us
that for everything there is a season, so turn, turn, turn.
